Okay guys, I just tried out Second Life last night for the first time. I worked forever on making my avatar. LOL. My screen name is Starshine Zapatero if you are looking for me. Anyway, ISTE has this island, and there are meeting spaces on it where you can gather and talk about things, either through chat or microphone/headset. So COOL! They have a podcast room, and campfires, and some larger meeting spaces like the band shell and something that looks like a wrestling arena. I met a docent today and she says that there are social gatherings and discussions about every Thursday night. There is a calendar on the front porch that gives you information about upcoming events. They have also reproduced the Alamo on the island which is hysterical. And if you go visit their island you can get 2 in game ISTE Tshirts for your avatar to wear (giggle). Anyway, if you want to try it out, give yourself a little time to go through tutorial island which is way fun (learn to drive a car and a segway in SL!) and then visit the ISTE island. I think it would be great fun for some of us to meet up there at some point! Personally, I think as far as use for our teachers there is very little beyond MAYBE some teachers using this for a rof development type of activity. As in, meet and discuss. But there is too much adult content to turn kids loose on this, and it honestly does take a while to get started and learn how to function. What are your thoughts?
